Welcome to Turf Moor for this evening’s game against Tottenham. It’s my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to Antonio Conte, the players, staff, directors, and supporters joining us tonight.
We come into tonight’s game following a tremendous 3-0 win at Brighton on Saturday, and I would like to congratulate Sean, the staff and players on the result. The match at Brighton marked Sean’s 250th Premier League match in charge at Burnley, and his 150th win in all competitions, two fantastic achievements that highlight the great job he is doing.
Nearly 1,000 Burnley supporters made the trip last weekend, even though the weather conditions were truly awful once again due to Storm Eunice, but as always, you stayed with the team, and I thank you for your support.
This evening is also our rescheduled Rainbow Laces fixture, highlighting our ‘One Club for All’ ethos and commitment to driving out all forms of discrimination in the modern game.
Here at Burnley FC, we have taken and will continue to take important strides forward in ensuring our football club is for everybody. Whether it be through our investment in Burnley FC Women, implementing greater representation within the Club and ensuring Turf Moor is a welcoming space for all fans. Premier League campaigns such as the Rainbow Laces fixture are important dates in our calendar, as we work together to tackle all forms of discrimination in football and society.
We were proud to introduce a new award for our academy recently, named after former Claret Lenny Johnrose.
The award will be presented to the academy player who shows promise in their overall football performance, college work and behaviour both on and off the pitch, with Lenny and his family kindly donating the trophy to the Club at the Liverpool fixture.
A valued member of the Clarets family, I want to thank Lenny for this special award and for being a true role model to our academy players.
Within the first week of launching, we saw a significant number of fans sign up to Clarets View, our new fan feedback initiative, which is extremely positive.
The aim of Clarets View is to work collaboratively with supporters to gather valuable feedback on areas of the Club including matchday experience, tickets and memberships & more. I would encourage fans to sign up to help us shape the Club together.
We were delighted to open our new Turf Moor FanZone at the Liverpool game recently, which was perfectly timed with the persistent rain! Hundreds of people attended on the day, and I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet many of you. The FanZone is open for our home games and based in the Elite Training Centre, so do take a look and enjoy what’s on offer.
You may have seen in the news this past week; young Deacon Glover met his footballing hero Nick Pope. The meeting was arranged by Prince William who met Deacon when he and the Duchess of Cambridge, visited Church on the Street in Burnley last month. Deacon lost his mother Grace during the pandemic and we were delighted to welcome him and his family, including his grandparents Terry and Samone, to the Liverpool game. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting them and hope that we made it a special day to remember.
Back to this evening. Let’s get set for a night of football under lights.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
