Eight players from the Clarets academy are currently out on loan across the Football League & non-league pyramid following a week which saw three of them make moves to new Clubs.
With goalkeeper Lukas Jensen taking the headlines after he helped Accrington Stanley to progress into the last four of the Papa John’s Trophy, here’s a round-up of how all eight have fared over the last seven days.
Bobby Thomas (Barnsley)
Defender Thomas – who has been at Burnley since 2017 - had a busy week, featuring for two Clubs.
Tuesday night saw the centre back make his final appearance for Bristol Rovers as they bowed out of the Papa John’s Trophy at the Quarter-Final stage with a 2-0 defeat at home against Plymouth Argyle.
On Saturday, it was then announced that he’d been recalled from that loan with Rovers and had moved to fellow Sky Bet League One outfit Barnsley for the remainder of the campaign.
The centre back was an unused substitute for the Tykes, managed by Michael Duff, in the capital as they lost 2-0 at Charlton Athletic.
This week’s game(s): SAT – Accrington Stanley (H)
Dara Costelloe (Bradford City)
Irishman Costelloe made the move to Bradford on Friday evening, his loan deal running until the end of the season.
He was straight into action for the Bantams at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday afternoon, playing 59 minutes as they picked up a point from a goalless draw.
Costelloe has been a Claret since February 2021.
This week’s game(s): SAT – Carlisle United (H)
Finn Armstrong (FC United of Manchester)
Full back Armstrong earned plaudits on Saturday, picking up FC’s Club Man of the Match award after their 4-4 draw at home against Hyde United.
The defender has been at Burnley since he was 12, and his youth loan at Broadhurst Park runs until 31st January.
This week’s game(s): SAT – South Shields (A)
Harry Moss (Barnoldswick Town)
Second-year scholar Moss’ wait for his Barnoldswick debut goes on after their home game against Northwich Victoria on Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
The towering goalkeeper did though feature on the bench for Burnley’s U21s as they beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 last Monday.
Moss has been a Claret since the summer of 2021.
This week’s game(s): TUE – Congleton Town (H) & SUN – Northwich Victoria (A – Macron Cup)
Joe McGlynn (Kidderminster Harriers)
Thursday saw the announcement of Scottish youth international McGlynn’s loan to Kidderminster until the end of the season.
The frontman – like Costelloe at Bradford – was straight into the starting lineup on Saturday as Russell Penn’s side bowed out of the Isuzu FA Trophy with a narrow 3-2 defeat away against Dorking Wanderers.
McGlynn played 64 minutes in that game, and will be back in contention for his Vanarama National League North debut this weekend.
This week’s game(s): SAT – Bradford Park Avenue (H)
Lewis Richardson (Grimsby Town)
Richardson is on a season-long loan at Grimsby in Sky Bet League Two.
The striker – who has been with Burnley since he was nine - wasn’t involved on Saturday as the Mariners lost 5-0 away against Swindon Town.
This week’s game(s): SAT – Harrogate Town (H)
Lukas Jensen (Accrington Stanley)
Danishman Jensen’s loan at Stanley also runs until the end of the campaign. He was the hero on Tuesday night with two saves in a penalty shoot-out win away against Lincoln City in the last eight of the Papa John’s Trophy.
The Reds are yet to play at the new Wembley, but are just one game away now and will face Bolton Wanderers at home in February for the opportunity.
Jensen was then on the bench for the visit of Bristol Rovers to the Wham Stadium in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday as Stanley picked up a 2-0 victory. The shot stopper has been at Burnley since 2019.
This week’s game(s): TUE – Boreham Wood (H – Emirates FA Cup replay) & SAT – Barnsley (A)
Sam Waller (Lancaster City)
Fellow ‘keeper Waller has been at Burnley from the age of 12, and his own youth loan with Lancaster runs until 31st January.
City didn’t have any match action over the last seven days having already been knocked out of the Isuzu FA Trophy, but are back with a double gameweek this time around.
This week’s game(s): TUE – Guiseley (A) & SAT – Liversedge (A)
