Six players from the Clarets academy are currently out on loan across the Football League & non-league pyramid.

With Finn Armstrong on target for the first time during his loan, and Will Hugill putting pen to paper on an extension to his time at Leek, here’s how all of the loanees fared over the last seven days.

Bobby Thomas (Bristol Rovers)

Defender Thomas was back in the North West on Friday evening, taking on Bolton Wanderers in Sky Bet League One action.

The centre back saw Rovers take the lead just two minutes in at the University of Bolton Stadium, but was hit with a late blow as the Trotters levelled things up in the 94th minute.

Thomas, with the Gas on a season-long loan, has been at Burnley since 2017.

This Week’s Games: SAT – Port Vale (H)

Finn Armstrong (FC United of Manchester)

In his 15th appearance for FC – where he is set to remain until 31st December -, Armstrong netted his first-ever senior goal.

Scoring the opener in a 2-0 win at home against Belper Town, the full back – who has been a Claret since he was 12 – played his part in a first league win in four for the Reds.

Lewis Richardson (Grimsby Town)

Striker Richardson has been at Burnley since he was nine, and is currently out on a season-long loan in Sky Bet League Two with Grimsby.

The Mariners sit 16th in the league table at the time of writing after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at AFC Wimbledon, which Richardson wasn’t involved in.

This Week’s Games: SAT – Tranmere Rovers (H)

Lukas Jensen (Accrington Stanley)

Goalkeeper Jensen is also out in the Football League for the duration of this season, playing a division higher with Stanley.

The Danish-born shot stopper, who has been with Burnley since 2019, was an unused substitute at the Wham Stadium at the weekend as the Reds drew 1-1 with Oxford United courtesy of a late equaliser. They sit 19th in the table at the time of writing.

This Week’s Games: SAT – Portsmouth (H)

Sam Waller (Lancaster City)

Like full back Armstrong, ‘keeper Waller – who has been in the Clarets academy since he was 12 - is on loan in the Northern Premier League’s Premier Division.

Stockport-born, he is with Lancaster until 3rd January 2023, and had a double gameweek which started with a penalty save in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy away against Bamber Bridge.

Despite that, the Dolly Blues exited that competition with a narrow 1-0 defeat. They then lost out 3-1 back in league action to Marine at the Giant Axe on Saturday in an ill-disciplined game which saw 13 yellow cards and one red handed out.

This Week’s Games: SAT – Nantwich Town (A)

Will Hugill (Leek Town)

Lifelong Burnley fan Hugill’s youth loan deal with Leek expired yesterday (4th December), but he has now signed an extension to remain at Harrison Park until 8th January 2023.

The versatile midfielder, who has been in the Clarets academy for the last two years, is close to a return to action following a knock picked up late last month, so didn’t play any part in Leek’s 2-0 loss at home to Runcorn Linnets over the weekend.

That was just their second league defeat of the campaign, and the Blues are 3rd in the Northern Premier League’s West Division at the time of writing.
