Good afternoon and welcome to Turf Moor for today’s game against Swansea City.
Due to the matchday programme print deadline, I'm writing these notes ahead of travelling to West Bromwich Albion, but we have had a few days since our trip to Millwall. Naturally, I’m disappointed that we were on the end of such a narrow defeat in London. We do however have the opportunity to bounce back on Thursday and on home turf this afternoon.
Last weekend was our first defeat in 10 games and I think it’s important that we remember that. As Scott said after the game, we are aware of the expectation for us to go to places and win games, however no three points are guaranteed in the Championship. We need to take the learnings from previous performances, get to work on the training pitch and go out there and put in a performance that we all can be proud of.
Today is Remembrance Sunday and at this afternoon’s game we will be remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We are joined by military personnel, veterans and currently serving members from the armed forces including the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force, for our annual Remembrance activations and prior to kick-off they will lead us in a moment of reflection and the Last Post.
We also want to take this opportunity to reflect on recent and ongoing conflicts and have in our thoughts all those around the world who are affected.
To show our support, Connor Roberts and Jay Rodriguez visited Whitehough Outdoor Centre in Barley recently, a site operated by Burnley FC in the Community, to meet veterans. The charity delivers several projects across the region that help those who have served in the armed forces connect with others in a similar situation, avoid feelings of loneliness and isolation and improve their overall health and wellness.
During the visit to Whitehough the players joined the veterans in planting a poppy display, decorated pumpkins and played darts, alongside finding out more about the project and the range of activities the charity have on offer.
One of the things I’m most proud of about this Club is our close connection to our official charity and its work in the local community. Whilst Jay and Connor supported our dedicated fixture to commemorate Remembrance Day, Luca and CJ also visited All Saints’ High School to surprise year 11 student Bailey. The charity delivers a fantastic educational programme at the school and Bailey was nominated by staff as a well done for all his hard work. His genuine shock at being surprised by his favourite player Luca was heartwarming to see and I believe visits such as this are vitally important for the players to grow closer to the local community and see firsthand the excellent work of Burnley FC in the Community.
Now, with kick-off fast approaching I want to thank you all for joining us this afternoon. Let’s get behind Scott and the team as we aim for three points!
UTC!
Alan
