Alan's notes ahead of tonight's game

Good evening and a warm welcome to Turf Moor for our game against Sunderland.

It’s great to resume our league campaign following our win in the FA Cup at Reading last weekend.

I was happy to see us progress to the fourth round of the competition and I was particularly impressed with the performances of our young academy players, Joe Bauress and Tommy McDermott.

In November we welcomed our new Academy Manager Chris Casper to the Club and upon his appointment he spoke of our aims to restore category one football at the Academy and develop more young talent on the pitch.

There’s lots of hard work going on behind the scenes to help us to achieve this and it was wonderful to see Joe and Tommy take their opportunity on the day, alongside Tom Tweedy and Charlie Veevers who were also named on the bench.

It was a special moment for the young players and their families and hopefully the experience helps them in their professional development.

We are a few weeks into the January transfer window, and it’s been fantastic to welcome Oliver Sonne to the Club and the return of Ashley Barnes.

Oliver’s settled into the group well and it was great to see him take to the pitch at Reading in the FA Cup last weekend.

I’m delighted that Ashley has rejoined until the end of the season. He’s an incredible character and fantastic individual to have around the dressing room and I think his experience will be of great benefit to the group.

Tonight’s game is a special date in our calendar as it’s our dedicated In Memoriam fixture and ahead of kick-off we will take a moment to commemorate the loss of members of the Clarets family who passed away over the course of the year.

We asked you to submit names, which we have added to a list of former players and staff who have sadly passed on, to be displayed on the big screen during the moment of reflection.

The names can also be found in tonight’s matchday programme and on our website and social media.

From me and everybody connected to Burnley Football Club, my sincere condolences to all those who have experienced a loss this past year. We will join together to remember you all and show our respects this evening.

Finally, we’re going to need your support for another big game tonight. Let’s get behind Scott and the team as we aim for three points.
