Alan's notes ahead of tonight's game

Good evening and welcome back to Turf Moor for tonight’s game against Hull City.

What a brilliant win at Southampton in the Emirates FA Cup last weekend. The result sees us progress to the fifth round of the competition and we will face familiar opponents who we travel to in the league this weekend, Preston North End in the next round.

The game at St Mary’s offered us a great opportunity to test ourselves against a Premier League team and I was delighted with so many aspects of our performance.

Scott took the opportunity to rotate the squad, which I take as a real positive. The players that came in did incredibly well, with many making their debuts. There were lots of positives to take into our next run of games and again I want to say a big thank you to all the supporters who made the long journey to the south coast.

Congratulations to Marcus who grabbed the winning goal too, what a way to make your club debut!

Tonight, we are supporting the Rainbow Ball campaign as we join the EFL in standing together against homophobia.

The Rainbow Ball is a symbol of the EFL’s unwavering commitment to the LGBTQ+ community, and a reminder to all that if you see, hear or witness homophobia, at any time, take action and report it.

We are determined to make our game representative of and welcoming to the communities we represent and know that we have an important role to play. We want everybody that comes to Turf Moor to behave towards others in a manner consistent with principles of fairness, respect and tolerance, and campaigns such as Rainbow Ball play a key role in educating and raising awareness.

Finally, I spoke recently of our delight at breaking and extending the Club’s record for consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.

Contributing heavily to this is James Trafford who was awarded Sky Bet Player of the Month for January.

James is a young player who has had an exceptional season so far, so I want to congratulate him for the award. A big congratulations must also go to the defenders, Scott, the coaching staff and in fact all the players. Football is a team sport, and teams win awards such as this as a unit. That’s what makes it so special.

Now tonight, we face another test against Hull City.

Midweek action under the lights always brings with it a level of excitement and following a positive result in the cup last weekend, let’s carry that momentum into tonight’s game.
