Robbie Brady free-kick gives Clarets friendly win

22 July 2017

The Clarets made it a win double on the day as the team led by assistant boss Ian Woan secured a 1-0 success thanks to a Robbie Brady special.

Woan had a strong side on the day as Burnley split their first-team squad between Kidderminster and National League North rivals Alfreton Town.

And it was the Clarets who dominated from the off at Aggborough – a new hunting ground for Burnley and the travelling fans - and came close when Matt Lowton found Ashley Barnes at the back post who nodded a header just wide.

The visitors came close again as Irish international Jeff Hendrick fired a shot just wide of Brandon Hall's goal.

The Clarets did take the lead though just after the half-hour mark as Brady curled in a sensational free-kick, leaving new signing Hall stranded between the sticks.

Woan's men came out raring to go at the start of the second half and nearly doubled their lead when Ashley Westwood teed up Barnes, who couldn't finish the move inside the area.

Kidderminster came close just before the hour mark when Manny Sonupe rattled the post with a shot from inside the box before Nick Pope cleared the danger.

Another opportunity fell to Barnes, this time Stephen Ward finding the target man who rifled an effort just wide of Hall's right post.

Matt Lowton then came close towards the end of the game as he unleashed a stinging strike which bounced off the crossbar and was cleared for safety by Harriers defender Keane.

And despite a dominant display from the Clarets they couldn’t add a second to put a seal on another useful work-out.

Burnley: Pope, Lowton (Hendrie 84), Ward, Westwood, Anderson, K Long, Ulvestad, Hendrick, Agyei, Barnes, Brady (Bayode 84). Subs: Stone, Leitch, Flowers, Howarth, Metz.
