The Australian mdifielder joined Burnley in the summer of 2017, signing a two-year scholarship.

However, due to international clearance the youngster has waited over 18 months to feature for the Clarets in a competitive fixture.

Woods was on the bench last weekend for the U18s, however, was not used, after being involved in the matchday squad for the first time since his clearance.

The 17-year old said: "It felt great, its been a long time coming and I was really happy to get there, and it was a good result as well.

“It was my first competitive game the club and it was even better it was with the U23s.

“I think I came on in a good part of the game, I think we dominated the game and we were enjoying it.

“It was a bit quicker and a bit more physical but I did really enjoy it out there”.

And Jon Pepper was also delighted to see the central-midfielder on the scene this afternoon.

The U23's win saw them rise to second in the league, just a point behind leaders Leeds United.

He said: “We have picked up a bit of momentum over the past few weeks and got the results.

“I didn’t think it was the greatest performance from us and with the chances we created it could have been a lot more.

“But we are pleased we dominated the majority of the game and got another four goals.

“And Oscar has been very patient, he has waited nearly 18 months for his clearance.

“So, it was his debut for Burnley today for the U23s and he looked quite comfortable".
