“I have been looking forward to this one for so long. It’s been coming and I’m happy for Vids as well,” said Lennon, whose clinical sliding finish made it two goals in two minutes just before the break.

“He’s been working so hard to get up to match fitness, so for us both to score was brilliant.

“It’s been in my head for a little bit to be honest. I’ve had a couple of chances so it was great to get the goal, but Saturday was just about the win.

“It was massive for us. We didn’t care how we got it, but to win 4-0 will definitely give us a boost and hopefully we can kick on from now.

“It’s just the beginning for us. Now we have to push on.”

The Clarets’ win over a Bournemouth side which had made its best start to a Premier League season after the first five games lifted Burnley off the bottom of the table and up to 16^th place.

And they also did their goal difference a power of good on an up-lifting afternoon that brought the feel-good factor back to Turf Moor.

A first home league win since mid-April and a first clean sheet since the opening day of the season showed the Clarets at their best with Ashley Barnes’ late double – both following major contributions from Lennon – completing the perfect response to a difficult start to the season.

“We knew it was coming. We know in a couple of games we had let ourselves down, but we have had more sessions on the training pitch and I think that showed,” added Lennon.

“I think people have been looking at us and asking: ‘are Burnley crumbling?’ But we don’t crumble here.

“We showed we were bang at it. We worked hard in the week and it all paid off.

“At 2-0 they had a couple of chances, but then to go up and punish them shows the quality we have in this team.”
