The summer signing from Derby County – last season’s top scorer in the Championship – was handed a first start by Clarets boss Sean Dyche.

And he responded with the opener in a sensational 4-0 victory over Bournemouth, which propelled the Clarets of the foot of the table with their first win of the season and gave the 26-year-old a first Premier League goal since he scored the last of his three on loan at West Bromwich Albion in 2013/14.

“It’s a little bit of a long time ago, but still the same feeling and maybe a little bit more because I was fighting to get into the Premier League for so many years,” said Vydra, whose poacher’s finish was quickly followed by Aaron Lennon’s first for the club.

“It’s nice when you can have your first start for Burnley and score.

“I think it’s amazing for everyone and I enjoyed that moment.

“I think both goals brought more confidence to the team. The crowd was brilliant and I think everyone was happy after those two minutes.

“In the second half they started keeping the ball a little bit more. We were waiting for a good opportunity to score more goals and it was brilliant from Barnesy.”

After Vydra and Lennon’s quick-fire double just before the break had rocked a Bournemouth side which started the day fifth in the table after taking 10 points from their opening five games, Barnes came off the bench to add two more late on.

Barnes’ brace made it the Clarets’ biggest ever win in the Premier League as they ended a four-match losing streak in style.

And after a testing start to the campaign and an abject performance at Wolves a week earlier, it was the perfect response from Dyche’s side as they got back to their best.

“It was good for everybody, for the strikers we scored four goals and good for the defenders and goalkeeper because they kept a clean sheet,” Vydra told Clarets Player HD.

“I think now we can breathe a little bit better, but still it’s only one win.

“You know how hard it is to stay in the Premier League.

“I think Burnley had a tough start to the Premier League, so now it’s back to normal.”
