Clarets continue warm-up with semi-final trophy tie

The Under-23s continue their pre-season preparations when they take on Lancaster City in the Lockstep Trophy tonight (Wednesday).

The Clarets are one of four teams involved in the tournament and face hosts Lancaster at their Giant Axe ground (KO 7.45pm).

Clitheroe face Ashton Athletic at home in the other semi-final at the same time with the winners meeting in the final at Lancaster on Saturday after a third-fourth place play-off earlier in the day.

The Clarets will face English opposition for the first time in their pre-season schedule in the shape of the Dolly Blues, who play in the Northern Premier League’s Premier Division.

Under the guidance of interim boss Michael Jackson, Burnley's U23s played two games during their pre-season training camp in Scotland.

The Clarets were beaten 4-2 by a Rangers’ B side and then 2-1 by a senior Ayr United line-up.

But Jackson was pleased with how his young side dealt with the respective challenges and will be looking for them to continue their progress at Lancaster, whose assistant head coach is ex-Clarets’ striker Graham Lancashire.

Tickets for the game are available HERE and pay-on-the-gate will be available on a first-come-first-served basis for any remaining tickets.
