Burnley head to Arsenal for Saturday’s lunch-time kick-off with three points and three goals in the bag from their opening-day win over Southampton.

And Mee revealed that right form word ‘go’ this summer the Clarets have been determined to make their mark on the division after a slow start 12 months ago left them battling against the drop.

“Looking into the eyes of the lads you could see that intense look that you are working hard in training and in games,” said the new skipper.

“The feeling is there that might have been missing at the beginning of last year with the Europa League.

“The focus is completely on the on the Premier League and you can see that in everyone’s eyes.

“It’s only one game in but we are determined to show everyone what we can do and how much we do deserve to be in this league.

“We want to do better than last year and be more consistent in our season.

“If we have the same sort of year that we did from January onwards, we will have a good season.”

The Clarets won just three domestic league fixtures before the end of December last season as the early demands and schedule of playing in the Europa League seemingly took their toll.

After losing at Arsenal three days before Christmas, Sean Dyche’s men then went two months without tasting defeat again on the road.

The Gunners completed the double with a win at Turf Moor on the final day of the season when Burnley’s work had effectively been done.

But Mee is keen to make amends and finally end something of a hoodoo at the hands of the Gunners who have certainly enjoyed the rub of the green in recent encounters and last dropped a point against Burnley in the Clarets’ first Premier League season 10 years ago.

“We always look forward to going there and I always feel we’re close to getting something, but for one reason or another we haven’t managed to do that,” Mee added ahead of back-to-back away games at the Emirates Stadium and Wolves before a visit from Liverpool precedes the first international break.

“They’ve always been interesting games and hopefully this time we can be on the right side of the result.

“It would be nice for something to go our way. We’ve had a bit of bad luck, but we generally play well there, and we will go there with full confidence from the weekend and I don’t see why we can’t go and get something.

“Psychologically getting that first three points before these games against teams that finished in the top half of the table was massive, and we go there with confidence we can get something from them.”
