Dan Agyei then snatched an equaliser with 15 minutes to play.

And Stone was happy to see his young side come away with a point and put up a good performance against an experienced side.

He said: “In the end I’d probably say a draw was a fair result. I think If you looked at it from a Burnley point of view you would probably say yes, we deserved more from the chances we created.

“We stuck at it and dug deep, they had a huge amount of experience out there tonight, but we are a young developing team.

“But we actually stuck to the game plan, game management and there things you have to develop as young players into the first team.

“It was all in there tonight, the two centre-halves were excellent, Dwight (McNeil) was captain tonight and it shows how he has developed, but you couldn’t single anyone out, all of them were brilliant in a tough game.”

West Brom fielded eight players who have played first team football, including former Crystal Palace and Wolves winger Bakary Sako and Scotland international Oliver Burke.

However, Stone believed his side were not fazed once they got out there and put a good fight.

Stone said: “I could sense it before the match when the team-sheet came out some of the lads were a bit surprised to see some of the names on there.

“I just told them it means absolutely nothing, they are here for a reason.

“I told them ‘You’re all amazing young footballers who play for Burnley Football Club so go show these lot what you guys can do’ and that’s what they did.”
