New recruit Lukas Jensen was the hero, as the Danish goalkeeper saved two penalties in the shoot-out after the game finished 0-0 after 90 minutes, which the Clarets went onto win 5-4 on a scorching afternoon at Burnley's base.

The match also saw midfielder Mace Goodridge start his first match in over a year, after coming on as as a substitute last week in the U23s win over Charlton Athletic.

The former Newcastle United and Manchester City man completed 60 minutes, before making way for Christian N'Guessan.

Town started brightly and came close after just four mintues, as Dan Mooney guided an effort just wide of the goal.

Moments later Fleetwood had another chance, this time Jay Matete firing the ball inches wide of the post, as the away side searched for an opener.

The Clarets then had their first opportunity of the game as the ball fell invitingly to Fenlon, who could only strike an effort just over from close range.

Early into the second half Town struck the post, as Matete broke into the area and fired straight at the outside of the woodwork.

Burnley then had a free-kick from just outside the area, as the clock ticked on, which U18 winger Ne-Jai Tucker curled just wide of the post.

And as the game entered the 82 minute, Fleetwood introduced former Claret Michael Fowler, who was released at the end of last season, after completing his two-year scholarship with Burnley.

But the two sides could not be seperated in 90 minutes, which resulted in a penalty shoot-out.
