Sean Dyche’s Clarets will be looking to go one better than the draw at Brighton last Saturday and pick up all three points at home to newly promoted Norwich City.

This will be Burnley’s first Premier League encounter with the Canaries, having last faced the East Anglian side in an FA Cup third round tie at Carrow Road in January 2012, which the home side won 4-1.

It’s been over eight years since Norwich visited Turf Moor, with Eddie Howe’s side coming through 2-1 victors in what was the last league encounter between the pair.

Jay Rodriguez scored an 81st minute winner in the Championship clash in February 2011.

Following relegation from the Premier League in 2014, Norwich were then promoted straight back to the Premier League, under the guidance of Alex Neil.

That stay lasted just one season, as again the Canaries suffered relegation at the end of the 2015-16 season.

The period of relegations and promotions prompted the club to turn to current coach Daniel Farke in 2017, who became the club’s first manager from outside the British Isles.

Unlike the relative instability at Carrow Road, the manager’s position at Turf Moor has been much more steady.

The game will be a milestone for Dyche, who will become the club’s fourth longest-serving manager – and second post-War - in terms of games managed.

Dyche said: “Overtaking Stan [Ternent], who is a great friend of mine and I think a lot of, is something to be recognised by myself.

“To get these milestones and stay at a club is rare. I’ve had a really strong set of staff and players over the years and that’s really helped, you need a lot of good people around you.”

Dyche however was quick to warn of the threat of the opposition, who will be out to spoil the party.

“We’re aware of Norwich, they’ve got energy, they’ve got an exuberance about them," he said. "They were excellent on the day [in their 3-2 victory over Man City last weekend] and it’s healthy for the game, the mixture of results.”

TEAM NEWS

Winger Johan Berg Gudmundsson will be given time to assess whether he is ready to start following his calf injury, meaning Danny Drinkwater is the Clarets’ only absentee.

Norwich however will be without a host of players, with Max Aarons, Onel Hernandez, Timm Klose, Tom Trybull, Mario Vrancic and Christoph Zimmermann all sidelined with injury.

Moritz Leitner has returned to training and may be available.

The Canaries can call upon loan man Patrick Roberts, who couldn’t face his parent club, Manchester City, last weekend.

FORM GUIDE

Norwich sit one point and one place above Burnley after the opening five Premier League fixtures.

Burnley’s first two home matches have finished 3-0, the opening day victory over Southampton followed by the reverse scoreline against early pace-setters Liverpool.

Norwich will be looking for their first away points of the season, having lost at Liverpool and West Ham.

Farke’s men also suffered a 1-0 defeat in the EFL Cup away at Crawley Town.

The Canaries however will be buoyed by their 3-2 win against champions Man City last time out.

OPPOSITION CAMP

Despite the impressive victory against Man City, Farke is cautious in letting his team get too carried away.

Farke said: “The sun has been shining this week! It’s important to enjoy last weekend’s win.

“Man City was good for the confidence and mood, but Burnley will be completely different.”

Farke was full of praise for the Clarets and the way the club is run.

“When you stick together and have spirit, commitment and togetherness, like they have, then you can be successful, so they can be a role model for us.”

MATCH STATS

This is the first meeting between the pair in the top-flight since 1976.

Burnley boast an impressive record at home to the Canaries, having lost only one of their last 17 league meetings, winning the last five.

Dyche will face Norwich for the first time as a manager. He has failed to win his last six matches when meeting an opponent for the first time (D2 L4).

Norwich have conceded 12 goals this season, the most by any Premier League team so far.

Emiliano Buendia is the first midfielder since Eden Hazard (2012) to assist four goals in his first five Premier League appearances.
