The former Birmingham City keeper' has featured in the Clarets' last three matches, remarkably saving three out of four penalties he has faced.

Legzdins has been a key figure in recent weeks, as the Clarets extended their unbeaten run to five matches yesterday, with a 1-1 draw against Liverpool in the Premier League Cup.

And the 31-year old admitted to being one of the leaders when stepping in and is delighted to help out the youngsters where he can.

He said: “I like to be one of the leaders, but I see myself as to lead as being calm then a shouter and baller, sometimes that’s not the case on the pitch.

“But I want to help them out, I’ve been there in a reserve team of a Premier League club where it’s hard to see a pathway sometimes.

“So, it is nice to help out where I can.”

The Clarets have been in fine form recently, winning their last three league games in the Professional Development League, scoring 14 along the way.

However, it’s not just the attacking force that played their part, despite Burnley conceding four penalties in their last two matches.

Legzdins saved both spot-kicks at the Tameside Stadium against Barnsley, before denying Liverpool’s Bobby Adekanye in the latter stages of the PLC match yesterday.

The Penkridge-born stopper said: “The penalty saves are one of those, there’s been a few penalty saves in the past couple of games.

“It’s more than that, I really enjoy helping them out and showing them both sides of the game and they seem really fantastic group this year.

“They are really receptive on how to listen, to win games and play different styles of football to suit the opposition.

“Today they go down to 10 men and they showed massive character and going into the first team that’s what it’s all about, working hard and showing those attributes.”

While Legzdins has been unable to climb the pecking order through the Clarets’ cast of international goalkeepers, he is happy to be playing an important role in the U23 squad and involved in competitive football.

He said: “Like in any team it’s frustrating, I want to be playing first team football.

“But the one thing at our club is that the manager and the staff and Billy show that a good attitude and working is hard is what you need.

“And if I can bring some enjoyment to myself with a game at the end of it keeps you on your toes and keeps you tuned in.

“It doesn’t substitute playing first team football, but it can make you feel better and I did really enjoy it."
