Joint top scorer Barnes missed last weekend’s controversial 2-1 defeat at Leicester City with a slight groin problem which ended his ever-present start to the Premier League season.

And midfield man Cork is stuck on 150 appearances for the Clarets after a fractured shoulder blade sustained at Aston Villa has kept him out of the last two games.

But both are back working with the group, with boss Sean Dyche hopeful he can add them to the mix for the tea-time visit of former champions Chelsea, which is being broadcast live on Sky Sports.

“Barnesy is not a million miles away, but it is that tricky decision of do you play and it get worse or do you not and you make sure you have an increased chance for the next one,” said Dyche after the Clarets' first loss in five games at Leicester.

“It is the same with Corky who has this tiny fracture in his shoulder blade but if someone landed on it then it re-fractures and you add another three or four weeks again.

“They have a strong chance (for Chelsea).”

On-loan midfielder Danny Drinkwater is still short of full fitness as he recovers from an ankle injury and would not be eligible to face his parent club at Turf Moor in any case.

But the England international was also working on the grass at the Barnfield Training Centre with fitness coach Tom Short as he looks to step up his comeback and force his way into the Clarets’ squad.
