Mee became only the second player after Ashley Barnes to make 100 Premier League appearances for the Clarets when he faced Manchester United earlier this month.

His 100^th top-flight start followed a week later at Wolves to add another milestone to a Turf Moor CV which also includes two promotions and a Championship-winning medal since signing from Manchester City in 2011.

“It’s nice to get that amount of games in. From the first game I played in the Premier League I think I have improved a lot and getting that time on the pitch is vital for any player,” said the long-serving defender.

“You never know how your path is going to go but I have been lucky enough to stay here and make it here in the Premier League. It definitely shows it was a worthwhile move for me.

“When I moved here if you had said I would be playing 100 games in the Premier League I would have taken that all day long and hopefully there are many more to come in the next few years.

“You are always looking forward and ahead to keep improving and playing games.”

Mee’s century of appearances has been marked by the presentation of a commemorative medal from the Premier League and sponsors Cadbury.

And his chances of adding to that number with the Clarets were greatly enhanced in the summer when the acting captain signed a new three-year deal.

“I have enjoyed myself here and want to continue doing that,” added the 29-year-old – a bedrock of Burnley’s bid to establish themselves in the top tier.

“I think I have been part of the success this club has been having and to play a bit of a part in that has been fantastic.

“It’s an important period in this club’s history, I guess. It’s nice to be involved and I want to be involved in it a bit more.”
