The big striker set the Clarets’ Under-23s on their way to a 2-1 friendly win over Pogon Szczecin II with a classy opening goal.

And his cool near-post finish provided the perfect end to a tough week-long training camp at Opalenica in western Poland.

“That’s what I wanted to do, early doors, get off the mark and settle myself. I’m really happy with that,” said Harker.

“It was a really good move. Joel (Senior) played a nice inside ball to Tunde (Bayode) and I ran across the near post and slotted it in.

“They were a decent side, but we worked hard, got our minutes that we needed to and got a good result in the end.

“It’s been a tough week, but we’ve all got through it and got our miles in the legs and we have to keep going now and keep building up the minutes to the start.”

Harker scored seven times for the U23s last season after signing from Bury, often as the foil for top scorer Dan Agyei, who is recuperating following injury.

And with Steve Stone’s squad currently light in the striking department while they look for reinforcements, the 19-year-old Yorkshireman is ready to lead from the front.

“I felt I kicked on in the last six months of the season and really progressed,” Harker added.

“I want it to be on my shoulders. I want to score goals.”
