Hendrick made it two goals in four games as he volleyed the Clarets to a 1-0 victory over the Toffees at a joyous Turf Moor.

With four games to be played on Sunday things may look different by the end of weekend.

But Hendrick sent the Clarets’ fans home happy on Saturday night with their team sitting in the top five.

“It’s fantastic,” said Hendrick, who converted an Ashley Westwood corner in the 72^nd-minute to extend the Clarets’ unbeaten run to four games.

“I was saying to the lads I know it’s still early, but it’s good for confidence, puts a smile on everyone’s face and keeps the fans happy.

“The squad is happy as well. We’ll enjoy that, but there’s still a long way to go.

“We’re sitting nicely up there. There’s still a long go, a lot of tough games and we’ll probably have a run of four games where it won’t work out, but for tonight we are happy.”

Everton were reduced to 10 men 11 minutes into the second half following the dismissal of defender Sean Coleman for a second yellow card as the Merserysiders battled to avoid a fourth successive league defeat for the first time in four years.

But the Clarets’ perseverance paid off when Hendrick struck to make it four games unbeaten for Sean Dyche’s side, whose 12-point total is the same they managed in the first half of last season which reached a conclusion with a pivotal 5-1 defeat to Everton on Boxing Day.

“We had to dig deep,” Hendrick added. “The sending off did help is a little bit and that’s when we had to be patient, keep the ball and try to wear them out. We looked to set pieces and thankfully I got the goal.

“We came back after the last international break and there were four good games there for us.

“There are no easy ones and we have to take each one at a time. But we looked at them and thought we could put some vital points on the board, and we’ve done that. We have stepped on and put some great points on the board.”

Hendrick has played a key role in that run, scoring a late equaliser at Brighton immediately after the last break and then starting each game since.

He moved to a central role against Everton due to Jack Cork’s injury absence and after again coming up with the goods, has set his sights on scoring more often.

“When I’m playing in the middle, or wherever I am, I am consciously thinking of trying to get in the box and get goals,” said the Ireland international who now heads off for two important Euro 2020 qualifiers with his country.

“I have been critical of myself for not scoring enough over the past few years and I’m trying to rectify that.

“The main thing is putting points on the board and working hard for the team, but I do want to score more goals and I’m trying to do that.

“Hopefully I can get a few more before the end of the season.”
