U23s' boss Steve Stone used the run-out to give game-time to a number of players who didn't feature in the league-opening 1-1 draw at Millwall last Friday.

And after a quiet start to the game, with a header from Harker (above) the only chance, Burnley opened the scoring with 20 minutes played.

Richardson slotted home from a few yards out, after following up the Rovers’ goalkeeper initial save from a Clarets’ trialist.

And just seven minutes later Stone’s men had a second, as Richardson was brought down inside the area.

Harker stepped up and slammed home the penalty to double Burnley’s advantage in the beaming Yorkshire sun.

However, just moments later Doncaster pulled one back, as the Rovers right-back picked out a striking colleague who turned and finished past George McMahon.

And as it began to pour down it was also raining goals at Doncaster’s training base, as Benson (above) coolly slotted in the Clarets’ third of the afternoon.

But just before the break the hosts had another, after finishing off a smart build-up with a neat finish.

Following a bumper first-half, it was a much quieter start to the second period.

And the hour mark saw substitutes Oliver Younger, Will Harris and Joel Senior introduced for Scott Wilson, Ryan Cooney and Harker.

With no real chances for either side in the second half, it was Harris who came closest as his strike rattled the post just five minutes before the end.

But with the last kick of the game Rovers equalsied as a substitute curled in a delightful free-kick from the left.

Stone’s side returns to league action next Monday against Coventry City at Turf Moor.
