The Reds have been revived since former striker and ‘super-sub’ Ole Gunnar Solksjaer took control in mid-December.

With ex-Claret and former number two to Sir Alex Ferguson, Mike Phelan, at his side and that of first-team coach Michael Carrick, Solksjaer has seemingly changed the mood that was prevalent under former manager Jose Mourinho.

The players have responded to a change of regime and helped Solskjaer produce eight successive wins to enhance the claims of the 45-year-old to secure the managerial post on a permanent basis.

United are still in the Champions League, the FA Cup and back in contention for a top-four finish as they look to keep their winning streak going.

But the Clarets have proved themselves no pushover at Old Trafford in recent times, drawing 0-0 at United two seasons ago and then leading 2-0 there on Boxing Day last year before being pegged back right at the death to leave with a point.

A 5-0 FA Cup exit at Manchester City last Saturday should have no bearing on Tuesday night’s trip, with the Clarets’ focus purely back on Premier League points.

Taking 10 from the last 12 available has revived the Clarets’ campaign and lifted them clear of the bottom three.

And while Sean Dyche doesn’t under-estimate the size of the task facing his side, he insists ending United’s charge is no forlorn hope for his own in-form team.

“Performance is the king, yet again,” said the Burnley boss, who made seven changes to his starting line-up at City to keep legs fresh for Old Trafford.

“That's what you're looking for. I do think there always is that little bit of apprehension from a team, there has to be, because of the power of some of these clubs.

“Equally, it brings that expected performance because Manchester United at home will be clear favourites, they've won all these games on the trot.

“In balance we go there with a little bit of freedom because all eyes are on them, there's expectation on them and once again we're the big underdogs.

“It's just the way it is when you're playing these teams and they're going well. It's a tougher challenge, but it's not an impossible challenge.”

The Clarets will be back to something more like their recent Premier League line-up after ringing the changes for last Saturday’s FA Cup exit at Manchester City.

However, former Manchester United defender Phil Bardsley faces a fitness check with fellow right-back Matt Lowton still out.

Another ex-United man Robbie Brady is a doubt with a groin injury sustained at City but winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson is in contention for a possible return.

United are close to full strength with defender Chris Smalling in contention to start his first game under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer after recovering from injury.

However,Marcos Rojo and Marouane Fellaini are still sidelined.
