Dyche’s side effectively ensured their safety with a 2-2 draw at Chelsea on Easter Monday as they moved nine points clear of the bottom three with three games to go.

It would have taken maximum points and an avalanche of goals from Cardiff City – plus wins for Southampton and Brighton – to drag Burnley back into danger over the closing weeks of the campaign.

Defeat for Cardiff at Fulham – 24 hours before the Clarets faced title-chasing Manchester City – snuffed out that unlikely scenario.

And Dyche believes it’s a job well done from his side which can now look forward to a fourth successive season of top-flight football after securing 28 points since the mid-way point of the campaign.

“We talked the other day that, statistically, you had to think there was every chance,” said the Burnley boss, who took charge of his 150^th Premier League game as Burnley lost 1-0 to table-topping City on Sunday.

“But it’s nice to be factually there. We’ve put such a big effort into the second half of the season.

“I mentioned the other day that people will deem it almost like a poor season, in a way.

“It’s been a fantastic season for us. This is Burnley. This is more the norm. This is not a walk in the park.

“Every season; finance, structure – trying to keep players here, get new quality in. All of that goes into it.

“Every year is tough and to come through it in the second half of the season – look at our points’ tally, our goal tally, our performance level – is first class and I’m delighted with what the staff and the players have done.”

Having finished seventh last season, the Clarets are currently looking to hold onto 15^th-place in the table.

That would still represent the club’s second highest league placing since 1975, with a European campaign also added to the collective CV.

And Dyche wants his players to keep going to the end to reflect the efforts they have put in to preserve their place among the elite.

“We’ve got two more and we want to finish it right,” he added.

“It’s not easy. We are away at Everton, who have had some ups and downs in the season, but who have had good home form, and then Arsenal back at our place.

“But the mentality was right against Manchester City. Against a top side, the mentality and will to deliver a performance was on it and we have to maintain that.

“I want the team to finish right and they have earned the right to finish properly.

“You can’t always guarantee a result, but you want to guarantee the performance levels are right, as we did on Sunday.”
