Dyche: A Foundation To Build From
Sean Dyche feels that Burnley now have the framework to build from after going back to basics.
The Clarets have lost just once in six games and picked up four clean sheets in five away games, to boost confidence ahead of the busy festive period, which begins at home to Wolves on Monday night.
And that defensive solidity means that focus now turns to improving the goals column to boost the points tally.
“We’ve picked up a nice five points from three tough games and two more clean sheets, but nothing is solved,” said the Clarets boss.
“It’s a season’s work, but once again we have found a base to work from when we get the basics right.
“Now it’s adding to that in the attacking framework to turn draws into wins.
“It’s not an easy thing to do, so I am really happy with the way things have turned around, especially with the clean sheets.
“We have to find goals; we know that and finding that balance we’ve looked for many times before is important.
“WhIle we are doing that, the key thing, when we’re not quite effective at the front end of the pitch, is to be effective at the back.
“Historically, we’ve found that balance, so I’m certainly not going to start picking it to pieces, but we know there is still work to be done, particularly in the attacking sense.”
The Clarets have lost just once in eight games against Monday’s opponents, who arrive at Turf Moor on the back of an excellent home win against Chelsea, which got them back to winning ways after back-to-back defeats.
And Dyche knows his players will have to be at their best to provide some festive cheer at Turf Moor.
“They are a good outfit and have been for a couple of seasons now. They’ve had a couple of injuries and we pass on our best wishes to Raul Jiminez,” said Dyche.
“They can affect you in different ways and they have to be taken very seriously.
“Historically, we’ve had good results against them actually, but we’ll have to work hard to ensure we continue that.”
