The midfielder won the club’s official award – voted for by supporters – and made it a memorable twin success by also being named Players’ Player of the Year by his team-mates.

Westwood was honoured at a gala awards night at Turf Moor as a reward for an outstanding campaign, which saw the 29-year-old play a key role in helping the Clarets secure a fourth successive season of Premier League football.

In his most productive campaign so far as a Claret, Westwood has started 30 top-flight games.

And his performances, driving Sean Dyche’s side on from the middle of the pitch, were pivotal in the eight-match unbeaten run from the turn of the year which propelled the Clarets towards safety.

The former Aston Villa and Crewe man also featured in the Clarets’ historic run to the final qualifying round of the Europa League and, as well as topping the club’s Premier League goal assist tally with seven, also scored his first goals for the club.

“They’re special awards. I never expected it and to have the lads and the fans voting for me is a great honour,” said Westwood, who last month also won the Player of the Year at the supporters' clubs' award night.

“I am very proud to collect these awards and I can’t thank the players and the fans enough.

“For me, it’s the best season I’ve ever had and that’s down to the lads and the staff.

“I want to kick on and now do even better in a claret shirt.”

Westwood’s midfield colleague, Jeff Hendrick, won the Goal of the Season award - voted for by the near 700 supporters attending the event - for his stunning strike in last 2-2 month’s draw at Chelsea, which effectively sealed the Clarets’ top-flight status for another year.

Strike partners Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood shared the stage for the top goalscorer award, with the final destination of the prize still to be decided.

Wood leads the way by one goal with next Sunday’s finale against Arsenal to come.

Teenage defender Bobby Thomas was named Youth Team Player of the Year after making the successful step up from the Under-18s to the Under-23s and earning a first professional contract.

Hendrick, James Tarkowski, Matthew Lowton and Jack Cork all received special ‘centurion’ medals to mark their 100^th appearances for the Clarets during the season.

And to complete a special night for the club, Burnley FC Women paraded the trophy they received earlier in the day for winning the FA National League Division One North and a second successive promotion.
