And Cork sees the current squad of players at Turf Moor as the strongest he has played in as the Clarets contest a fourth successive season in top-flight football since the early 1970s.

“The quality we’ve got; we have some great players,” said the midfielder, who chalked up his 150^th appearance for the Clarets – spread across two spells – at Aston Villa at the end of last month.

“We have some good international players and a real squad depth this season, which we haven’t had before.

“Looking at teams I’ve been involved in, or any Burnley team over the last 20 or 30-odd years, this is probably the strongest group they’ve had.

“We’ve got two players for each position. But they’re not just players who are young lads that can fill in.

“They are international players or lads who have played 100 or 200 games in the Premier League.

“So, it’s a real strong squad and it’s a big demand to get in the team and stay in the team.”

Phil Bardsley and Ben Gibson didn’t make the bench for last Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Everton as they continued to rotate with defensive allies Kevin Long and Charlie Taylor – whose appearance as a substitute against the Toffees helped set up a third win in four home games.

Northern Ireland goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell is also waiting in the wings, while former Premier League winner and England international Danny Drinkwater is still to make a possible Burnley debut.

Cork was also absent for the win over Everton as he missed only his second league game since signing from Swansea City in the summer of 2017.

But the 30-year-old hopes not to be sidelined for long with the fracture he suffered to a shoulder blade in the 1-1 draw at Villa Park.

“It’s unfortunate but I suppose it’s a good time with the international break and a bit lucky it’s not something more serious in the shoulder joint, so it’s not too bad,” he said.
