Sean Dyche’s men picked up a point at Wolves last time out on the road ahead of the international break and will be looking to turn that into three at a ground they have enjoyed visiting in recent seasons.

Burnley haven’t lost at the Amex Stadium in their last four trips, picking up a famous point with Michael Keane’s last-gasp equaliser in the 2016 Championship promotion race before earning a Premier League draw in 2017 and a vital 3-1 win last season.

Brighton old boys Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood shared the goals on a rainy evening in February as the Clarets continued the eight-match unbeaten run that propelled them to safety.

The win at Brighton was game number seven and set a new club record at Premier League level as Wood struck twice and Barnes scored from the penalty spot to seal the victory.

The duo had previously scored goals together for Brighton – helping Gus Poyet’s side win the First Division title in 2011.

Both clubs have come a long way since, with Brighton starting a third successive top-flight campaign under new boss Graham Potter.

Barnes and Wood are both established Premier League strikers and leading scorer Barnes – who has bagged four goals in four games – is relishing the prospect of another return to a club where he made his name before scaling new heights with the Clarets following his arrival in 2013.

“I love playing at the stadium. I’ve got many fond memories of my time there and I still speak to many of the staff and a few of the players, so it will be brilliant to come back,” Barnes told Brighton’s club website.

“I knew that I had to make a good start to the new season because everyone comes back feeling stronger and fitter. I did a lot of hard work in the off season, which helped me get ready for pre-season.

“I feel like I’m getting better every time I’m selected and that I’m improving in each season. To get 12 goals last year was great, but I want to do even better now. I feel like I’m coming to the best period of my career and I’ve still got a lot to give.”

Team news

The Clarets will check on winger Johan Berg Gudmundsson, who is recovering from a calf injury which forced him to miss the defeat to Liverpool ahead of the international break.

However, Dwight McNeil is fit after missing England Under-21 duty, while fellow wideman Robbie Brady could figure for the first time this season after recovering from a rib injury.

Danny Drinkwater is facing a few weeks on the sidelines with an ankle problem.

Brighton will be without summer signing Leandro Trossard after the frontman – Brighton’s only scorer in their last three league games – was injured on international duty with Belgium.

Italian defender Ezequiel Schelotto could figure for the first time this season but defender Yves Bissouma and forward Jose Izquierdo are both still out.

The Clarets lost their opening away fixture at Arsenal before claiming a point at Wolves in their last away outing.

Brighton made a flying start with a 3-0 win at Watford on the opening day before a home draw with West Ham next time out.

The Seagulls have since lost back-to-back Premier League games – although won at Bristol Rovers to advance in the League Cup.
