The midfielder slotted the ball home from the spot just after the hour mark, after Ryan Edmondson gave Leeds the lead in the first-half.

And Benson was delighted to grab his first goal of the season, as well as extend the unbeaten run to 13 matches, in front of a 1,000 spectators at Elland Road.

“It was about time I scored, I’m really happy”, Benson smiled.

“Leeds are a good side; I thought the boys played really well tonight against a really experienced Leeds side.

“The boys dug deep to claw a goal back and we could have gone onto win it late on, so we deserved the point.

“But I thought we were excellent all over the park and we done well to keep the unbeaten run going at Elland Road in front of a good crowd.”

Leeds handed starts to eight players that had featured for the first team, with Liam Cooper leading the backline, youngsters Jamie Shackleton and Jordan Stevens out wide and Spurs loanee Jack Clark on the wing just amongst them.

But Benson admits the inclusion of experienced players fires up the players even more and believes it's a good test for those involved.

“It gives a bit more determination more than anything if I am being honest.

“We see that first team players are involved in the dressing rooms before the match, so we want to go out there and show them what we are about and compete with them.

“I think its important to not let it get to you and sort of pump yourself up even more for it and prove how good of a team we are”, Said Benson.

Benson also touched on the penalty situation within the group, as Lewis Richardson won the Clarets' fifth spot-kick this season, however missing two of those.

The former-Arsenal youngster admitted it was his turn to try his luck from the spot, before sending goalkeeper Meslier the wrong way.

“When I was stepping up the crowd were shouting and trying to put me off and stuff, but I just did my best to shut it out and try focus on scoring.

“We have missed a couple this season, so I thought its my turn to step up and have a go and luckily it went in.

“Rico (Richardson) won us another penalty and it shows that he is difficult to come up against and attack the defenders like he did again tonight.”
