Sean Dyche has called upon Clarets supporters to believe in his Premier League troops ahead of the Chelsea opener.

The special bond between the Turf Moor faithful and the players was a catalyst for promotion to the top-flight in the memorable 2013/14 campaign.

And as the start of the new season inches closer, Dyche is hoping that level of backing will be in place once more, even at the more testing times.

Dyche said: “I get the feeling that last season there was true belief and a connection between the players and the fans.

“I think they really felt they had a group who were totally motivated towards the shirt and the club and the cause which was to get promoted.

“That is important. I think they’ve come to understand that and the positivity around that.

“They know we need that as a group as the task has gone up again.

“We want the fans to stay with us of course and when we had a couple of testing times last season they did do.

“If we went a goal down say, there was a calmness around the stadium and great belief in the group that they would keep going.

“We are renowned for that and we are relentless in the way we approach games and the way we deliver and we will be looking to keep that intact.”

Turf Moor is now close to being sold out on what promises to be a special night under the lights, as it welcomes top-flight football back.

And while Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea provide one of the tougher opening fixtures, Dyche prefers to look at it from an alternative perspective.

He added: “It’s a double edged sword really, I mean which teams do you get in the Premier League where you think that’s going to be an easy one?

“I don’t think there is such a thing and we’ve got to play them all at some point, the players and myself both know that.

“For sure, it’s a tough challenge, they’ve got a fantastic manager, a fantastic club and a fantastic team as well as amazing power in the market.

“Having said that, there are no guarantees for anyone and Jose was open in saying last year that he felt it was one of the leagues that was more open than others.

“We’ll certainly be working hard to make sure it is!”
