Brian Laws felt vindicated after his reshuffled Burnley team overpowered Morecambe to book a place in the Carling Cup third round.
Laws made nine changes to the team that beat Leicester City at Turf Moor at the weekend - and gave Michael King and Wes Fletcher late first ream debuts.
Yet after falling behind early on, goals from Chris Eagles - who has agreed a new two-year deal - Steven Thompson's penalty and Kevin McDonald's late deflected strike earned a 3-1 win.

The Burnley boss said: "Morecambe had a great result against Coventry and beat them on merit, so we knew it was going to be tough.
"But credit where credit is due. The proof of the pudding was putting out a team that would test the squad that they passed the test.
"This is my squad now and I am proud of the way the players have responded.
"These are the games people question the changes you make and whether you are taking the game seriously.
"We made nine changes, but we have a strong squad and that wasn't a reserve side. The players out there produced the football that suggests we have got a strong squad."

Laws added: "It was always going to be a tough game and a battle at times, but the players that came in did well and it was a professional job done.
"Even going a goal down, which I thought was suspect, we showed resilience and came back well and full deserved it in the end.
"At times we opened them up and eventually we got that break we needed.
"At times it wasn't pretty and we had to mix it. That's what happens in this competition, but once we got the goal from Chris Eagles it sparked the recovery and I thought in the second half we started to show the football I know we are capable of.
"We took control of the game and all in all it was a really pleasing night.
"Winning games breeds confidence and we have a little momentum going. Let's hope that goes on for a long time!"
