Laws Relishing Coyle Cup Showdown

Posted on: Sun 29 Aug 2010

Brian Laws is already sizing up a heavyweight bout with former Clarets' boss Owen Coyle.

But he is adamant he wants a fair fight when he leads Burnley into battle against Bolton in the Carling Cup third round.

"I actually texted Owen after the draw and put 'Ouch!'" revealed Laws after the two clubs were paired together in the last 32 of the competition.

"We didn't get the draw until late because of our team meetings.

"When I saw it I smiled because it's a mouth-watering one for the supporters.

"It's a local derby and there will be a lot of emotions and we are at home, which is fantastic. "

Laws added: "Everyone knows what a fantastic job Owen Coyle did at Burnley and there has to be credit where credit is due.

"He did a terrific job here and he is probably coming back to the club sooner than he thought.

"I hope the supporters give him the applause he deserves, but clearly there is a lot of heartache there and this has added a little bit more spice to it.

Owen Coyle and his backroom staff will be back at Turf Moor

"It's going to be interesting and I wouldn't be surprised if we got a full house for that one.

"We will look forward to it when it comes, but the more important thing between now and them is the league."

The Turf Moor showdown will be Coyle's first return to Burnley since he quit the club in January to take charge of Bolton and pave the way for Laws to take over.

The tie will be played in the week commencing 20th September with an exact date still to be confirmed.
