New Deal Makes Eagles Ready For Lift-Off

Posted on: Sat 28 Aug 2010

Chris Eagles is ready for lift-off after signing a new two-year deal at Turf Moor.

The winger ended speculation about a possible move by committing himself to the Clarets until at least June, 2012.

And with his future settled, the former Manchester United man is now ready to fully focus his efforts on helping Burnley build on their unbeaten start to the season.

"The last month has been quite stressful for me as there have been lots of rumours flying around, and papers have been writing all sorts of things so it's just nice to put my mind at ease and concentrate on my football," Eagles told Clarets Player.

"I went up to Rangers to look around and Celtic were interested as well but I love it here so much that it was too hard to leave.

"I play my best football when I am happy and when I'm smiling. I was smiling on Tuesday night and I was back to what I believe was best and I just want to carry on my form and get back into the team.

"I am just pleased to have everything over and done with now."

Staying put

Eagles started his first game of the season with a goal-scoring performance in the Clarets' Carling Cup win at Morecambe.

His new deal means he will now remain as a key part of manager Brian Laws' Championship plans and Eagles believes the Clarets are capable of challenging for promotion back to the top flight.

"I love it here and the players we have got have got the talent to go back there.

"I wouldn't have signed if I didn't think Burnley can get back into the Premier League," said the 24-year-old.

Eagles' decision to commit to a new deal represents a major vote of confidence in the Clarets and will also be well received by the supporters who made their feelings known at Morecambe.

Eagles responds to the Clarets' fans at Morecambe

"Tuesday was very special because they were shouting more than I have ever heard before," he added.

"It's always special to hear people shouting your name because you feel like you are playing for them as well.

"You feel you are wearing the shirt for you, your family, the fans and everyone at the club."
