The Clarets launched their totesport.com league campaign in storming fashion with a goal blitz at Bower Fold.
Brian Easton and captain David Edgar scored before the break to set Burnley on their way to an emphatic opening victory.
And four goals in ten power-packed second-half minutes from Wes Fletcher, two, Jay Rodriguez and Kevin McDonald crowned a productive night on Tameside.
Together with their goals, senior squad men Easton, Edgar, McDonald and Rodriguez also got valuable playing time into their legs.
And as well as a comfortable clean sheet for Lee Grant on his first outing in a Burnley shirt, Richard Eckerlsey also got through an impressive 45 minutes.
Watching first-team boss Brian Laws expects Tyrone Mears to be fit to face Leicester City on Saturday but has Ecklersley up his sleeve to fill the right-back role if required.
The former Manchester United youngster proved his well being with a solid performance highlighted by some high quality crosses from the right flank.

Brian Easton opened the scoring
And Eckersley was also unlucky not to score with a thundering shot which hit the bar in a first half which should have seen the Clarets put themselves out of sight.
After Grant had been forced to tip away a Sean Highdale at full stretch cross in the opening minutes, Burnley soon took a firm grip and went ahead with eight minutes gone.
Michael King was the provider as he lit the spark for an outstanding performance on the left-hand side of midfield with a perfectly delivered free-kick which Easton headed powerfully home at the far post.
Eckersley then cracked the woodwork before King had a hand in the second goal as Burnley doubled their lead after 25 minutes.
Oldham failed to deal with another wicked free-kick and when Kevin Long headed on, Edgar pounced to flick the ball home from close range.

Wes Fletcher struck twice
Fletcher was then thwarted by goalkeeper Josh Ollerenshaw and Rodriguez nodded over from close range from another Ecklersley cross.
And when Rodriguez saw a penalty saved by Ollerenshaw after his run had been curtailed by the Latics' keeper eight minutes before the break the Clarets must have felt short-changed to be leading by one two goals.
However, their dominance was rewarded after the break once Rodriguez had suffered further frustration from seeing an effort chalked off for off-side and a long-range skidder blocked by the busy Ollerenshaw.
Fletcher finally unlocked the floodgates when he triggered off the goal-rush 18 minutes from the end, stealing in behind the Oldham defence to steer home a neat finish.

Jay Rodriguez's persistence paid off
Rodriguez finally got the goal his persistence deserved when he turned the ball in from close range after Long had headed down following a corner and McDonald then helped himself to number five to cap a commanding personal performance.
Alex MacDonald was unlucky to see his shot blocked following fine run but Oldham's respite was only brief as McDonald pounced on the loose ball to curl a beauty into the bottom corner.
With the Clarets in total control there was still time for a sixth as King signed off with another accurate corner which Fletcher glanced into the net at the near post to round off a fantastic night's work for Ashley Hoskin's men in his first game as reserve team boss.
