Brian Laws has thrown down the gauntlet to the Clarets squad by insisting all places are still up for grabs.
The Clarets now have a full week of preparation for Saturday's npower Championship kick off at Turf Moor.
And despite fielding a strong starting eleven in the final warm up game against Stoke City, Laws admitted the ink is not yet dry on the line up to face Nottingham Forest in the curtain raiser.
He said: "People will read into this last game and I can't stop speculation - even among the players - as to who will start.
"They will know next week, but what we have done is try to make sure everyone has had equal time by spreading it around.
"It's all to play for and one or two have to brush up on their act a wee bit, while others are making sure they are ready for that first game of the season."
Laws added: "It's a long season and nobody is going to make judgement calls on pre-season games and no team that I have seen in pre-season are anywhere near where you would expect.
"They are about fitness and coming through unscathed and now we have a free week in preparation.
"But we have certainly not given Forest anything to work on and today our objective was not to show our hand in any way."
The official website begins ramping up to the big kick off tomorrow. And the new, revamped Clarets Player is at the very heart of our build up.
