Brian Jensen has blanked out the 'shambles' of Denmark's World Cup planning to warm up for his latest challenge at Turf Moor.

The un-capped Jensen was overlooked for Denmark's World Cup squad with number one Thomas Sorensen backed up by Stephan Andersen of Brondby and Jesper Christiansen of FC Copenhagen in South Africa.

The Clarets' keeper, an ever-present in the Premier League last season, had harboured hopes of a first call-up but believes he was never given a fair crack of the whip.

"It's all politics to be honest," said Jensen. "It's quite ironic that the three goalkeepers who have been picked over there have all had the same goalkeeping coach at some stage of their career.

"I am the only one who hasn't, so you can think about that yourself. It's all politics and it's frankly a shambles.

"One of them was injured for 250 days last year so I am surprised as you are."

There's no doubt Jensen felt the anguish of being overlooked by Danish coach Morten Olsen but has not sat on front of the television pining.

"I haven't seen one game yet. I watched the second half of the England game and I have been flicking through once in a while," he told Clarets Player.

"But I haven't had sat down for one game yet. I think it's boring. I think at the moment some teams are actually playing not to get beat.

"There have been a couple of teams who have been positive going forward, like Holland, Argentina and Brazil.

"Maybe in the later stages I will probably follow it a little bit but at the moment I haven't been watching it."

Jensen is ready for the new campaign

Jensen's only visit to Africa has been for a holiday but as well as his family break, the 'Beast' has been keeping himself in decent shape ready for the new season.

The 35-year-old, who has committed himself to the Clarets by signing a new two-year deal, was back at Turf Moor today for a fitness check.

And he will then step up his preparation to help Burnley's assault on the Championship when Brian Laws' squad reports back for pre-season training at the start of July - when there could be a further goalkeeper in the ranks to provide fresh competition.

"It will always keep me on my toes and whoever comes in comes in and you just take it from there. I have done it for a long period of time now," added the Clarets' longest serving player.

"You have to keep on top of it (your fitness). I am not getting younger, although I have to point out age is just a number!

"If you come in a little unfit you can't keep up to the level you did before you will be struggling at the beginning of pre-season.

"You have to keep yourself in the best shape you can and then just crack on.

"What happened last season is in the past now. We have to put it behind us now and we can only look forward.

"We have got a good budget. We have signed some good players and if we can keep the majority of the squad I think we've got a good chance."
