Brian Laws will try and end a year of hurt for the Clarets with a first away win of the season at Wigan Athletic tomorrow.

Burnley have not won a regulation league fixture away from Turf Moor since Robbie Blake struck a priceless late goal in a 2-1 win at Plymouth Argyle on 21st March last year.

Since clinching promotion to the top flight, the Clarets have lost 14 of their 15 away games - leaving Laws to try and fix a conundrum he inherited on the eve of a daunting trip to Old Trafford in January.

"Everyone is waiting for the first win away, although it's not just as though it's happened overnight," said the Burnley boss.

"This has been a long-term thing - almost a year to the day - so I think the important thing is that we acknowledge the fact it's been such a long time and it's taken a long time to re-address.

"It will be a great relief to get that first win because once you get that first win away from home it does give you great confidence and normally inspires you to go on and get more wins away from home.

"You normally go on a run of results. We have got to break that duck. It has been very frustrating for the supporters over the last 12 months not to see their team win away from home."

Blake's winner at Home Park 12 months ago earned the Clarets a huge win to maintain the momentum in their play-off charge.

And a repeat at the DW Stadium could be just as important with Burnley fighting for their Premier League lives and looking to get within a point of Wigan in the scramble for safety.

"With eight games to go we are still in the thick of things," Laws told Clarets Player.

"You can't hide away from the fact that we are all very disappointed we didn't get the result against Wolves last weekend.

"But the evidence from the second-half performance particularly, tells everybody we are more than capable of winning games.

"It would be great if we could get a result against Wigan, which would set us up nicely for a fantastic and massive game against Blackburn the week after."
