Top scorer Steven Fletcher is back in training and will be given until the last minute to prove his fitness for Saturday's crunch clash with Wolves.
Fletcher has missed the Clarets' last two games with the broken hand he suffered training with Scotland.
But manager Brian Laws confirmed that the 11-goal striker is getting closer to a return.
"Fletch just missed out on Wednesday and a couple more days might give him a great chance," confirmed the Burnley boss.
"He will be training for the next couple of days and it's improving every day that goes by.
"We will wait and see and make a judgement call on that, probably last thing.
"That's how important he is to the team. He's a great player for us and we will be better for him in than out of it."
Laws added: "If we can get him back in the side, fantastic, but we have to make sure he's comfortable with it and I'm not having to bring him off because if I have to do that it means something's wrong.
"The one thing that strikers do is they use their arms. They have to use them to protect, lean and force things so he has to be clear in his mind that he's comfortable with that and if he is, then game on.
"He's a quality player and you don't leave quality out."
Fletcher's availability would be a major boost as the Clarets look for the win that would take them above Wolves and clear of the relegation places.

David Nugent's goal against Stoke continued his good run
But David Nugent's third goal in five games to earn a point from Wednesday night's 1-1 draw with Stoke proved that Laws' squad has more than one string to its bow.
"If you have got somebody who can score goals for you he is a key member of your team, like Fletcher," said the Clarets' chief.
"But we've got Nugent as well and Paterson, who's on the goalscoring chart.
"We have got players who are capable of scoring goals, and that's the good thing. We can create and we will create, it's a matter of making sure the chances fall to the right feet."
Meanwhile, midfielder Chris McCann is again likely to miss out against Wolves as he battles to overcome a knee problem.
"We are just trying to do it right with him without forcing him back in when he is not right," Laws explained.
"The bone bruising around the knee is still fairly sore. We have to take each day as it comes and not put a timescale on it."
