Goalscorer David Nugent believes the Clarets should take pride from their performance at Arsenal as they prepare for a run of games crucial to their survival fight.

Burnley left the Emirates Stadium with another away defeat as the Gunners ran out 3-1 winners to keep their title hopes alive.

But it took an injury-time goal from Andrey Arshavin to settle Arsenal's nerves as the Clarets threatened to follow up Nugent's impressive finish with a second leveller.

"After the game at Aston Villa when we let a goal in and then conceded another four it was nice to come back and get an equaliser and show a bit of fight," said Nugent .

"We've got to start getting some points away from home but I thought today we could be proud of our performance.

"Once they scored you get a bit nervous thinking they might go on and get a few more but we dug deep and tried to stayed in the game as long as we could.

"We know they missed some chances but we have to stick ours away to stay in the game and we did that.

"Unluckily Arsenal were just a bit too strong in the end with a good finish from Theo Walcott and Arshavin."

David Nugent celebrates his goal at Arsenal

After Cesc Fabregas had fired the Gunners ahead in the first half, Nugent pounced to steer home his fifth goal of the season and second in four games since extending his loan from Portsmouth.

That deal ruled him out of the Clarets' defeat to Pompey just over a week ago and Nugent is now looking to help Burnley get back to winning ways against Stoke on Wednesday night in the first of two games in four days at Turf Moor.

He added: "I was disappointed that I couldn't play against Portsmouth but they are rules and it was nice to come back on and get a goal at Arsenal.

"The lads aren't too disheartened with the performance. We know it was a better performance than against Villa and we have to build on this now and hopefully we can take this into the Stoke game.

"That's massive. Stoke are a big strong side but they are beatable. There are only three teams that have won at our place this season and hopefully we can keep it at that way."
