Diego Penny showed that Burnley's goalkeeping fortunes are in safe hands with a stunning performance for the reserves on Tuesday night.
The Peruvian international made a double penalty save and a handful of other top quality blocks as the Clarets' second string ran out 2-1 winners against Manchester City.
And coach Steve Davis believes Penny's assured display will stand him in good stead as he waits in line, along with a number of other squad men, for the possibility of first-team football.
"Diego was outstanding. That was pleasing and good from his point of view," said Davis.
"It's a confidence-booster for him, as I think it is for all the players that are playing if you can turn in a good performance.
"It gives you a lot of confidence and it shows the manager and Sandy, who were watching, what you are capable of.

Davis - confidence booster
"It gives you a bit of a platform so that if you do get a chance that you will hopefully be ready to take it."
Penny was modest enough to admit afterwards that he got lucky in guessing correctly to save the twice-taken penalty from Manchester City striker David Ball.
But the overall commanding performance of the 25-year-old stood out as he showed his well-being as the current support act to Brian Jensen.
