Fletcher Delighted With Premier Move

Posted on: Wed 01 Jul 2009

Record signing Steven Fletcher is relishing the chance to show Burnley fans his Premier League class.

The Scottish international became the club's biggest ever capture when he made the £3m move from Hibernian following a day of negotiations.

The move doubles the previous transfer record, set when Martin Paterson and Chris Eagles both made the move to Turf Moor last summer.

Premier Signing: Fletcher with Owen Coyle

But Fletcher, 22, insists he is not bothered by the price tag and wants to hit the ground running when the Clarets make their top flight bow in just over a month.

Fletcher said: "I am absolutely delighted to sign for the club.

"It is a great feeling to be here and I am just looking forward to getting the season started now.

"As soon as I heard that Burnley were after me, and knowing Owen Coyle as I do from my time in Scotland, I thought this was the right place to come and develop my career.

"The opportunity came long in January for me to join Celtic, but Hibs did not think it was the right time to move on.

"When the chance arrived to come to the Premier League and play for a club like Burnley, I was glad they accepted that and let me come down.

"I have wanted to come to England for a while now to show people what I can do and I am so looking forward to it.

"I want to give 100 per cent and score goals and hopefully I can do that."

Fletcher will be formally introduced to the media at a press conference at Turf Moor on Thursday at 1.30pm.
