Posted on: Thu 18 Jun 2009

Operational Director Brendan Flood has spoken of his joy after Owen Coyle signed an extended contract at Turf Moor.

The Clarets boss has been in talks over a two-year extension to his current deal, which expired in summer 2011.

And after a magnificent season where the Scot masterminded Burnley's sensational promotion to the Premier League, Coyle has now put pen to paper on a new deal which will see him through to the end of the 2012/13 season.

Speaking about the news, Flood, said:

"We are delighted to secure Owen's commitment to Burnley Football Club for a four year period until the end of 2012/13 season.

"Owen is a young manager with a great future, who will continue to revive the traditions of Burnley FC to develop young British talent and to play attractive football.

"As this year represents the club's 50th anniversary since we won the First Division, we are delighted that Owen will lead the club and its fans through one of the most exciting seasons in our history.

"The community has recognised Owen's qualities and we are sure everyone will welcome this news, so that we can now concentrate on our plans for a very successful season."

Mr Flood added:

"I don't think Owen's time here could have gone any better, it has been a dream and we are still pinching ourselves now.

"I think we saw in Owen he had the determination and is a natural winner. He says the right things for man-management and he has got the right attitude for Burnley.

"It's all about making new traditions and new things to look back on, that's what Owen is helping us to do and it couldn't have gone any better.

"Once you have got the right mix, you have to hold on to it and we need people who are hard working with a good attitude.

"Owen is from a good working class background, he identifies with the fans and makes them feel proud of the club.

"He is privileged to be the manager and that's what we are all together on here.

"We have a great relationship with Owen which is one of the main reasons he is still here.

"There is a mutual loyalty, we gave him a great opportunity which he has taken with both hands and he now has the chance to perform in the Premier League.

"We expect Owen to go on to show he could be a top six manager and I think he will be."
