Owen Coyle has spoken of the challenges that lie ahead as Burnley prepare for their debut campaign in the Premier League.

The Clarets will have the smallest transfer budget in the league as they look to strengthen the squad for life in the top flight, but the gaffer is by no means fazed by the obstacles he could face in the search for new recruits.

"We knew we were coming into the Premier League and things would change, but the magnitude of everything involved is huge and everybody at the football club is getting to grasp with that," said Coyle.

"We will have the smallest budget in the league by far, but that doesn't faze me. In the Championship we were at the lower end of the scale, so that won't be a big issue for me.

"I'm prepared to work with that, making sure I get players who are the best value for money and willing to represent this football club with all the heart, endeavor and quality that I ask from my group of players.

"I have already put a couple of offers in for players at different places and they were initially rejected, so you either have to move on, or revisit it, that's where we are.

"We will continue down that route and will do out best for Burnley Football Club. There is no panic, we have to make sure it's the right type of players we bring in for the longevity of this club.

"We have to make sure that we are very selective about who we go after and that they are the right type of player to come into the group I have.

"Those players have served the club so well and we have to make sure that whoever we bring in complements that squad.

"I will make sure when spending money that the players we sign are ones for the future and who we can improve as we have done with the ones we signed last year."

And as Coyle begins his search for new blood, he admits character and commitment to the cause will be amongst the crucial attributes he is looking for.

"If somebody's motivation to come to Burnley Football Club is money then they are the wrong type of players for me," insisted Coyle.

"I am respectful that people are looking for decent salaries, but I want players that are motivated to be the best they can on the football pitch.

"The opportunity to play for Burnley Football Club is a huge carat for anybody and that will be my focus for speaking to players.

"We have to know they are coming here for footballing reasons and not to chase money.

"There are players out there that I have targeted, but as much as perceived about the finance in the league we have got a football club to run for years to come.

"It would be easy for me to say as a manager that I want £30 million to spend and if that was to come unstuck the club would be left in a perilous position.

"As a manger it would be remiss of me to have a knee-jerk reaction and say it's all just about next season, which of course is an unbelievable challenge and one we want to do everything to stay in.

"But, you need to have a bit of commonsense and a long term plan which I'm looking to put in place."

Commenting on transfer speculation which has been rife in recent weeks, Coyle added:

"There will be a host of players out there who are out of our reach. I had to laugh when I was away on holiday we were linked with a couple of players who I had never even spoke to!

"Nobody will speak to clubs or players on my behalf, if there's somebody after them that will be me.

"I read a report linking us with Damien Duff, but he would be nowhere within our reach!

"I have not spoken to Middlesbrough about Rhys Williams, he is a player I like, but that's been it.

"I'm not going to get involved in speculation about transfers because it just leads to frustration for everybody.

"Some rumours will be a load of nonsense and what I can assure the fans is when I have news regarding players they will here it from me first.

"Unless any speculation is confirmed by me, then they can take it as being a load of nonsense."
