Owen Coyle believed there were plenty of positives to take from his side's 1-1 draw with Queen of the South.

Martin Paterson opened up his account for the Clarets with a terrific goal late in the first half before the hosts equalised in the closing stages of the game.

And the Burnley boss admitted he was overall very satisfied with the work-out at Palmerston Park.

"In the later stages fatigue had a factor but we still worked well. We conceded a soft goal from a set play but having said that there were a lot of pleasing aspects about it," said Coyle.

"Martin Paterson scored a terrific goal in the first half and it was another game for the new lads to bed in. Martin has been working ever so hard and I told him if he continued that work rate the goals would come and so it proved. We are very excited about how he will play for us.

"It was a very pleasing workout and a highly competitive game The support was fantastic too and very vocal so I think they will have had an enjoyable afternoon.

"Diego Penny trained with us before the game too so he got to have a look at the lads. I thought Brian Jensen was outstanding today though and he made a couple of great saves.

"I was pleased with the effort but I always knew it was going to be a difficult game. Queen of the South start their season next week and they showed last year they were a very good side so overall I was very pleased.

"There is still room for improvement though and we'll strive for that between now and August 9th."

Coyle, who now takes his side to Partick Thistle on Monday added.

."I expect a similar game on Monday. Partick will be fit and raring to go and they have some very good players.

"We might shuffle the lads about again but we will take stock of that on Sunday."
