Chris McCann hopes Burnley can use their American tour as a springboard to big things this season.

The Clarets squad flew back to the UK on Thursday morning in preparation for their three match tour of Scotland, starting with Queen of the South on Saturday.

And the midfielder who scored in the 2-0 win over Minnesota, admitted the stateside trip had been a worthwhile exercise with the team getting in peak shape ready for the big kick-off on August 9^th.

"It was brilliant to finish with a win and a goal for me. We were disappointed to lose the first game, but pre-season is all about getting fitness up and against Minnesota from start to finish we looked a lot stronger," said McCann.

"I was pleased to get the goal and hopefully I can kick on now and get a couple more before the end of pre-season to take into the new campaign.

"I was disappointed because the PA announcer said it was Steven Caldwell who scored so he was going around claiming it but it was my goal and I'm very happy with it!

"It's the first time I've been to America and it's different class. Everything is large, there is no such thing as small and the facilities have been first class. We get a couple of days rest now and then we're off to Scotland where we have some more tough games."

It was a good night for youth all round against Minnesota with Jay Rodriguez also getting on the scoresheet following excellent work from Alex MacDonald.

McCann has been impressed with how the youngsters have acquitted themselves in pre-season and hopes he can use his own experience to help them on what will be a steep learning curve.

"It was good for Jay to score, he has done really well this pre-season as have the other young lads Alex MacDonald and Adam Kay," added McCann.

"I know the lads from playing in the youth team myself. We all get on really well and I'd like to wish them all the best and try to help them as much as possible. I hope they can get in the first team and do well."
