Clarets’ Quartet Receive Nominations in North West Football Awards

17 September 2019

Burnley midfielders Ashley Westwood and Dwight McNeil, along with Burnley FC Women's duo Sarah Greenhalgh and Evie Priestley, have all received nominations for the prestigious North West Football Awards.

Westwood’s stellar form last season has seen him nominated in the main category for Premier League Player of the Season at this year’s glittering event, held later in the year.

The former Aston Villa man will compete with the likes of Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Man City’s Bernardo Silva for the award.

Westwood started 31 Premier League games last season and was named both the Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year.

Young winger McNeil will compete with 16 other players, including current holder Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Everton’s Richarlison for the Rising Star award.

McNeil was key to the Clarets’ survival last season, with his performances rewarded with a new long-term deal in January.

Meanwhile, Greenhalgh has been nominated for the Women’s Player of the Season, where she faces competition from players such as Man City and England captain Steph Houghton.

Greenhalgh finished as Burnley FC Women’s top goalscorer across all competitions last season, with 24 goals in total as the team secured a successive league title and promotion into the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division, the third tier in the women’s football pyramid.

Greenhalgh’s teammate Priestley is a nominee for the Women’s Rising Star award.

Priestley finished the season as one of the club’s highest scorers and netted a hat trick in the promotion clinching game against Crewe Alexandra Women.

Fans can now cast their votes ahead of the awards, which will be announced at a ceremony at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford on Monday 11th November.

Burnley FC and Burnley FC in the Community are also in the running for three awards at November’s upcoming Ladbrokes Northwest Football Awards.
