Lead Phase Coach and U18 Assistant Manager John Townson was pleased to see his side extend their unbeaten run to seven games with a 5-1 victory over Sheffield United on Tuesday.
Despite the young Clarets heading into the break level at 1-1 in their latest Professional Development League clash, at the Barnfield Training Centre, Burnley ran out 5-1 winners after four goals in a hectic seven second-half minutes ensured an emphatic win over the Yorkshire side.
Townson said: "I though that the first half was even, although I thought that we had the better chances and could have put it to bed earlier and gone two or three up early on.
“After an hour it was still relatively even and they were having a good spell, but four goals in seven minutes and it was game over, just like that, so the lads did really well”.
As a result, the youth team are yet to lose in the calendar year, with five wins and two draws in the U18 PDL keeping then hot on the heels of the divison's pace-setters.
And Townson is pleased with how his side have kicked off 2019; however, knows his side must take it one game at a time.
The former Accrington Stanley coach added: “We are in a good place at the moment, winning a lot of games and it was a good point last week at Millwall.
“We said if we win the next game then it becomes an even better point, which we have now done.
“It’s a great run and we just look to keep it going really.”
The win saw the Clarets close the gap on second placed Leeds United to just two points, with a game in hand.
“It keeps the pressure on Leeds, which is really important, but we will just focus on ourselves and take it one game at a time.
“We go to Crystal Palace in our next game and we will see what we can do there.” said Townson.
