Former Clarets midfielder David Jones hopes to reap the benefit of being ‘Dyche-fit’ as he seeks a new challenge.
The two-time promotion winner with Burnley is back training with the club after leaving Sheffield Wednesday this summer.
And the 34-year-old free agent is tankful of having the opportunity to be back in the Burnley camp as he awaits offers from elsewhere.
“I’ve been away three years now, so it was nice to get the invite to come and train and get fit again,” said Jones, who was speaking to Clarets Player along with former room-mate Tom Heaton.
“Tom and I are very good friends and we speak all the time and, as people know, I’ve left Sheffield Wednesday, so I spoke to him and we both thought it would be a good idea to call the manager and get myself ready for the new season.
“I called and he kindly allowed me to come and train – and what better place to get fit than Burnley.
“The manager has been fantastic, firstly to let me come and train, then to take me on this Portugal trip and let me be involved in everything.”
Jones initially trained with the squad at Barnfield on their return to pre-season, before being added to the travelling party to the training camp on the Algarve.
And he admitted to being impressed by all aspects of the club, including the new training facilities at Barnfield, which were completed following his departure in 2016.
“It’s still the same club, but better and bigger and this always seems to be a club that is developing and moving forwards,” said Jones.
“That’s clearly evident from the training ground, the players who have come in and the achievements of the team.
“It has definitely progressed in the right way at a steady rate by doing things in stages and reaping the benefits.”
