Burnley U18 1 Bristol City U18 0

6 April 2019

Tony Philliskirk’s side bounced back from a rare defeat with a last-gasp victory over Bristol City.

A 90th minute winner from Chris Conn-Clarke secured all three points to get the Clarets back to winning ways.

A game which saw neither side really dominate the match, saw the two teams head into the break level, with Burnley coming closest early on, as Jayden Major struck an effort just wide of the post.

The Clarets introduced Ne-Jai Tucker for U16 youngster Ben Woods at half-time.

And the winger looked lively, cutting in from the right and curling the ball straight at the City goalkeeper.

As Philliskirk’s side pushed on for a winning goal, Bristol came close to snatching a goal, as the towering striker fired a shot just over the bar from range.

Moments later, Rhys Fenlon nearly put the Clarets side ahead, as he darted in to the back post to slot home a loose ball, before a City defender blocked the danger before clearing.

However, with a minute to go, Burnley were awarded a free-kick 30-yards out to the right of the goal.

Up stepped Conn-Clarke, and the Northern Irishman’s whipped ball looped over the keeper and into the back of the net to snatch the win.
