Hendrick: Bring On City!

25 April 2019

Jeff Hendrick believes that the Clarets are capable of standing in the way of Manchester City’s title challenge.

Pep Guardiola’s men travel to Turf Moor on Sunday knowing that wins in their remaining three games will be enough to clinch the Premier League trophy for the second season in a row.

But Burnley enter the game in high spirits after virtually guaranteeing another season in the top-flight, reaching 40 points with a hard-fought draw at Chelsea on Monday night, which extended their unbeaten run to four games.

And Hendrick insists they are relishing the prospect of having a say in this year’s title race.

The Irish midfielder said: “It’s always nice when the big teams come to town. It’s going to be tough; they’re a very good team and they move the ball well.

“We know there will be a lot of people watching, but this year we’ve picked up some good points from the big teams and hopefully we can do it again.

“We’ve been saying for a few weeks now that the main thing for us is to take each game as it comes and keep putting points on the board.

“We’ve been on a good run of form as well, so it definitely helps.”

Hendrick got Sean Dyche’s men off to a dream start at Stamford Bridge, opening the scoring with a stunning volley for his third goal of the season.

He added: “Me and Charlie Taylor have been at the edge of the box for some weeks now and eventually one dropped to me.

“I took a bit of time and thankfully it went in the back of the net. Nine out of 10 times it can go anywhere, but that time it went in.”
