Dwight McNeil has earned his first England recognition after breaking into the senior set-up at Turf Moor.
The teenager has been placed on the stand-by list for England’s under-20 squad and will spend the early part of next week training with the national team.
The Under-20s, coached by former Preston and Carlisle United boss Paul Simpson, play Italy at AFC Fylde next Thursday night before they go to the Czech Republic on Monday, 15 October.
McNeil may not be involved in the games but his invitation as a training player is fitting recognition for the 18-year-old winger and the progress he has made with the Clarets.
McNeil, who joined Burnley’s Academy in 2014 after leaving Manchester United, made his first-team debut as a late substitute against Bournemouth on the final day of last season.
He then signed a first professional contract at Turf Moor in the summer and has been part of Sean Dyche’s senior squad since then.
McNeil’s full debut came against Olympiakos in the Europa League qualifiers in August before the Rochdale-born midfielder started his first Premier League game against Manchester United at the start of September.
